Understanding QR codes
What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?+
A static QR code encodes the destination directly into the pattern, so it works forever and needs no account — but the destination can never change. A dynamic QR code points to a short link you own, so you can re-point it to a new destination after the code is already printed — and optionally set an expiry date, a scan limit, or a fallback URL for when the campaign ends (Pro).
Are QR codes safe to scan?+
A QR code is just an encoded link or text — it cannot run anything by itself. The safest habit is to check the preview your phone shows before opening a link. Codes you generate here are created in your browser and never tamper with the destination.
Do QR codes expire?+
Static codes never expire — the data lives inside the image itself. Dynamic codes keep working as long as the short link is active; with QR Studio Lab your dynamic links stay live on your plan.
Does the same QR code work on iPhone and Android?+
Yes. Modern iOS and Android cameras read QR codes natively — no separate app needed. Wi-Fi, contact and link codes all open the right action on both platforms.
Creating & customizing
Is QR Studio Lab really free?+
Yes. You can generate unlimited static QR codes with your logo and brand colors, and download print-ready PNG, SVG, PDF and EPS files — no account and no watermark. Dynamic codes and analytics are part of the paid plans.
Can I add my logo and brand colors?+
Absolutely. Drop in a logo, set the code and background colors (RGB, CMYK or Pantone), pick a dot and corner style, and the built-in checker keeps the code scannable while you design.
What file formats can I download?+
PNG for digital use, SVG and vector PDF for infinite-resolution printing, and EPS for professional print workflows — all free, no watermark. Pantone spot-color print PDFs are available when you pick a Pantone code color.
Can I change where a code points after printing it?+
Only with a dynamic code. Print it once, then edit the destination from your dashboard — the update goes live in about a minute without reprinting anything.
Do you track scans?+
Dynamic codes record scan count, country and device type so you can measure a campaign. Static codes encode the destination directly and are not tracked. You can also add UTM parameters to feed your own Google Analytics.
